Warren police crackdown on illegal fireworks
Warren police have made a pledge to get tough on illegal fireworks this 4th of July holiday. Police will be strictly enforcing the city's fireworks ordinance, which prohibits the sale or usage of illegal fireworks.
"The primary concern for this enforcement is to protect citizens from unnecessary injury," said Warren Deputy Police Commissioner Jere Green. "Police will be targeting places of sale and officers may issue violations to residents in possession of illegal fireworks."
It is unlawful to sell or furnish fireworks to a person under the age of 18. Under Warren city ordinance, it is illegal to set off fireworks between 9 p.m. and 10 a.m.
A violation of the city's fireworks ordinance is a 90 day misdemeanor punishable by a fine up to $500.
Any questions regarding Warren's fireworks ordinance, call the Warren Police Department at 586-574-4700.

I personally feel as a resident in Warren, that there are many more important things that need to be done in this city, in terms of crime. I think focusing energy on something that really doesn't cause harm to a population, and adds to the festivities of the holiday shouldn't be targeted so highly. Just a week ago, my neighbor's house was broken into, and 2 weeks ago, I saw a man beating a woman in broad daylight on 8 mile rd. I think there are more criminals that need to be chased than fireworks.

This is about as effective to the city of Warren as the policy about to be adopted pertaining to having to post a sign on your house that you have a vicious dog. C'mon Warren, wake up! Fireworks are the least of our worries; dogs can't read and are going to charge and maul a kid regardless of whether or not it is posted at your house! What's next, a crackdown on JAYWALKING?

Catching criminals doesn't pay, that's why they're criminals. Hard working tax paying citizens are easier to catch and do pay. It's a question of balance.

I wish someone would have done something about the people shooting off fireworks at 11:00 PM and 2:20 AN last night(7/1/09) in me neighborhood(14 Mile and Bunert). Some people have to work in the morning and need their sleep. 11:00 PM is not too bad but 2:20 AM there is no reason for this.

This crackdown is about as ridiculous of a crackdown as you can think of. Police need to worry more about the crime/gang rate in the southern end of the city, the drunk driving, and any other crime of this nature. Telling residence they can not light of fireworks on the celebration of our nations freedom is like tell us we can give/receive gifts on Christmas. It is going to be more costly to the residence of this city to house someone in jail along with court cost than to just let it go. Clean up the city of the criminals before you go after someone for having fun.
