FRIDAY
Today for our fifth and final day of riot coverage, the Director of Research for the United Way , Kurt Metzger will share with us some fascinating statistics about the similarities, and differences between Detroit today, and 40-years ago.
We've delved deeply into the legacy of the Riot this week, but we still haven't thoroughly addressed the ways in which it
affects Detroiters today. WDET's John Notarianni spent some time in the Brightmoor neighborhood to see how it's residents our doing 40-years later.
Toni Moceri is one of MANY Warren residents running for city council. She is young, intelligent, and passionate. She and artist Sterling Toles will be on the program this morning talking about how we can learn from history and build new movements from them, how to create space for critical dialogue, and how learning about the civil-rights movement from Baby-Boomers informed their world/community view.
In the second-hour of today's show, we'll broadcast yesterday's WSU panel discussion on moving forward from the riot. The panel was made up of young Detroiters, including Ethriam Brammer, assistant director at WSU's Center for Chicano-Boricua studies; PJ Cherrin, of the Jewish Community Relations Council; Hannan Deep, director of communications, Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS); Jaime Pfeffer, freelance writer, author of Girl in the D Blog; Dalton Roberson Jr, of New Detroit; and Bankole Thompson, senior editor of the Michigan Chronicle, none of whom were born before 1967.
