  How to stop attack campaign literature

Many Warrenites are disgusted with those insecure Candidates who employ phantom writers to compose some of the most blatant lies about their opponents.  The name of the game to these scoundrels is to discredit their opponent at any cost.  The higher the office sought the more these reputation killers charge.

As someone who has ran in two elections I can tell you that a majority of the folks running for office hire writers to compose their Campaign materials.  There is nothing wrong with that.  Good writers are worth their weight in gold.  There are just a few folks who turn to the attack writers and many times win the election.
There is a certain politician in town who entered elective office by reporting half truths about his opponent in their attack campaign literature.   This happened many years ago in the Democratic primary election. I will not give their name because I don't want to go down to their level of inhumanity.  This person in their Campaign literature  accused a well respected incumbent of taking a lot of of time off.  They even went on to say that if they were elected they would be a "full-time" office holder. 
The other side of that half truth was that the well respected incumbent had Cancer which took them away from their duties.  Their opponent knew that and used it against the well respected incumbent.  The well respected incumbent lost the election and later died of Cancer.  The sad part is this writer of half truths and the winning Candidate had absolutely no remorse about it.  To them it was win anyway you can do it.  This person is still telling lies and half truths today in their campaign literature. Their way of doing business has even been handed down to a family member. That my friend is Sad with a capital S.   To use a Chubby Checker line to make it clear as rain water, "how low can you go ?"
In the current election in the City of Warren there are six Candidates employing attack writers.  These Candidates not only employ the attack writer or writers (only the writer knows for sure)  they also spend multiple thousands of dollars on the best Campaign stationary money can buy.  There are attack writers putting out literature in the top three offices and three doing the same  in the Council race.  I don't have to say which Candidates are affected because it is clear as the morning sky when you read the attack Campaign literature which is mailed to homes throughout Warren.
Is there a way to stop this?   Yes there is.  When you receive Campaign literature mailed to your home from a Candidate or a Committee attacking the character of their opponent do what I and thousands of others do.  Vote for the person they are critical of.  If afterwards that person mails you Campaign literature attacking the person who attacked them first don't concern yourself  because getting even, although a bad decision, can be understood.  Psychology 101 tells us if someone speaks bad about you there is always that inclination to "hit back".  Although childish, we can all understand the frustration a Candidate must have when someone begins saying bad things about them.  Remember all candidates who play above board are worthy of being elected.  Those who don't play above board will surely carry that characteristic into office. To them its all about power and money.
There are good people running in this election you only have to take the time to listen what they say and look at what they do.   Last but not least do vote for who you believe would help unite our City.  If you don't vote you are giving votes to the bad politicians.  As I often say voting  is very important to the Candidates and their families and those of us who vote!  I'll make my endorsements in November.
